A. HOME REPAIR COORDINATORS – Volunteers with gifts of administration and basic knowledge of construction that coordinate the people and materials related to the home repair projects. Most of these volunteers work will take place prior to Project Day. They will work with the Project Evaluators and House Captains to see that projects are approved and properly planned and staffed. They will assist with the matching of home repair volunteers to the repair projects and keep the house captains informed of important information leading up to Project Day. Home Repair Coordinators are members of the steering committee. Three Home Repair Coordinators are needed.
B. HOME EVALUATORS – Volunteers with well rounded construction or cleaning skills that undertake initial site visits to those that are nominated for home repair and cleaning projects. Home Evaluators inspect the projects to determine work that is likely to be needed and the feasibility of the project for Labor of Love. For the home evaluation visit, Home Evaluators may be matched with a Compassionate Care volunteer, who interacts with the homeowner and supports their spiritual needs of the homeowner. Home evaluation visits typically take about two hours, and we would hope that a volunteer could conduct two to four evaluations. All of the evaluations take place from January through early March, so Home Evaluators could also volunteer for another position, such as a House Captain, on Project Day. A brief training session is provided for Home Evaluators. Approximately ten Home Evaluators are needed.
C. HOUSE CAPTAINS – Volunteers with construction and project coordination skills that plan projects, determine materials needed, and undertake pre-project coordination. On Project Day, the House Captain manages a project and coordinates the volunteer workers. One House Captain is needed to attend the steering committee meetings, and then to communicate information to the other House Captains. A brief training session is provided for House Captains. Approximately 30 House Captains are needed.
D. COMPASSIONATE CARE COORDINATORS– Volunteers with gifts of communication, natural kindness and administration to coordinate the Compassionate Care team. They coordinate Compassionate Care Volunteers to evaluate the needs of people nominated for projects, match Compassionate Care volunteers with House Captains, and provide training and direction to the Compassionate Care Team Members. The Compassionate Care Coordinators are members of the Steering Committee and at least two are needed.
E. COMPASSIONATE CARE TEAM – Volunteers with gifts of natural kindness and empathy to communicate with potential Labor of Love recipients to determine their needs, offer prayer and assistance, coordinate additional Love INC or social services that may be helpful, and build a relationship with the recipient that can last beyond Project Day. These volunteers will work with the House Captains to visit potential work sites, and to reach out to the recipients demonstrating God’s love through friendship and prayer. It is desired that Compassionate Care volunteers could maintain contact and communication with the recipient on a monthly basis for at least six months after Project Day. Approximately 20 Compassionate Care volunteers are needed.
F. RAKE AND RUN COORDINATORS – Volunteers to coordinate youth efforts for the spring yard clean up program. This will include finding senior citizens that need the service, creating the clean up routes, coordinating parent drivers, coordinating materials that are needed and disposal of the yard waste, and having fun with the youth during the project. . Two coordinators are needed and both are members of the steering committee.
G. CLEAN TEAM COORDINATORS - Volunteers to coordinate efforts for the home cleaning program. This will include finding senior citizens that need the service, creating the cleaning routes, coordinating volunteer teams, and overseeing the teams on project day. Two coordinators are needed and serve of the steering committee.
H. HOSPITALITY COORDINATORS – oversee the coordination of food and drink on the day of the event. Includes coordinating a continental breakfast at the church, lunch for the workers on Project Day, and a celebration event following Project Day. One member is needed to attend steering committee meetings and then to communicate that information back to other team members. Two coordinators are needed and serve on the steering committee.
I. FUNDRAISING TEAM – Volunteers to communicate with local merchants and service organization to request material and financial donations. Develop materials and training that would encourage partner churches to contribute. Seek out opportunities for grants and file appropriate applications. This role requires only a few hours per month, but is a year round effort as many businesses and charities have varying deadlines. One member is needed to attend the steering committee meetings, and then communicate information to other team members.
J. PUBLIC RELATIONS – Volunteers to communicate the message of Labor of Love to other churches, local media newspapers, radio and television outlets. The public relations team will also create newsletter articles that can be distributed via e mail to partner churches and past volunteers. One member is needed to attend the steering committee meetings, and then communicate information to other team members.
K. VIDEOGRAPHER/PHOTOGRAPHER - Volunteers would take photographs and videos to document the event and then combine them into a two presentations: a video that can be played at the Celebration Dinner a week after the event, and a promotional video that can be shown to other churches and community organizations to create additional interest in the program.
L. WEB SITE ADMINISTRATORS – To oversee the updating and improvement of the www.laboroflovelivingston.com website. This website uses a template system that is very easy to edit and update. No formal website programming experience is necessary. The Web Site Administrator will attend Steering Committee meetings to gather important information that could be added to the website.
M. COMMUNICATIONS TEAM – oversee the communication of Labor of Love information to other churches and to the volunteers. Includes coordination of registration, input of information into the internet database, telephone call follow up, coordination of the purchase of T-shirts for the volunteers. At least one person from this team is needed to attend steering committee meetings and lead this team.
N. DATABASE COORDINATORS – oversee the set up and transfer of information into a new internet based volunteer database, which will allow the communications team to update volunteer information through home and church based computer internet access.
O. TREASURER – a volunteer with basic financial management skills to oversee the finances of Labor of Love. The treasurer will authorize disbursements and reimbursements, develop an overall budget for Project Day, and provide basic financial reports before and after Project Day.
